Actually, I don't have any idea about problems facing that corrupt land
other than what Greenpeace and other similarly oriented groups have been
saying for years.

We have just been able to compare what happens in countries that are
struck by super cyclones when some have reasonable ground cover and
other have had their land ruined by systematic abuse of the forests.

Regions such as Madagascar and Indonesia will suffer in the same way
that Haiti has suffered when they come under the gun. The people
ultimately responsible for the ruin (the politicians and the judicial
system along with the people who buy their illegally cut timber,
international conglomerates who own firms like Britain's B&Q etc) will
not be the ones to suffer the worst of it.

Pity.

This was from a quake some short time back.

Indonesia is a highly populated region who have lived through a
crippling regime the same way that the people of Russia have.

One bad set of governors after another were replaced by even worse ones.
Those at the bootom of the heap were only able to watch as their land
was ruined. Sometimes they had no choice but to find work in this ruin
of their environment.

Today as we see improvements in standards start to take place:
http://www.tve.org/ho/doc.cfm?aid=1538&lang=English we also hear of the
terible catastrophese that the logging and all the other things has
brought. A very sad state of affairs in my opinion.

When the British fell on that land, an immediate move to desecrate the
place was installed. Decade after decade, the use of the land was given
over to imported livestock that did not feature well in the long term
enviroment. Until eventually even the massive underground water supply
failed.

One cycle after another has seen an incredible overpopulation of
imported pests.

Today there is a plague of locusts. Last time that happened the country
was bracketed in the north by large cyclones. There seems to be a
relationship to this bracketing and locust infestations. This one
accompanies similar sets of stormy weather either side of southern
Australia.

Am I just deceiving myself once more?

From recent events in the Philippines and the blame accorded by news
pundits, it's easy to see where the hurricanes are going to hit, by the
misuse of the environment but difficult to push that one into earthquake
research.

Despite the coincidentaal anecdotes from history.
