http://www.co2science.org/scripts/Te....jsp?Page=data /ushcn/stationoftheweek ************************************************** *** * USHCN Temperature Record of the Week: Cedarville, CA * * To bolster our claim that "There Has Been No Net Global * Warming for the Past 70 Years," each week we highlight the * temperature record of one of the 1221 U.S. Historical * Climatology Network (USHCN) stations from 1930-2000. * * This issue's temperature record of the week is from * Cedarville, California. During the period of most * significant greenhouse gas buildup over the past century, * i.e., 1930 and onward, Cedarville's mean annual temperature * has cooled by 2.13 degrees Fahrenheit. Not much global * warming here! ************************************************** *** Cedarville, CA 41.53N, 120.17W, elevation 4670 feet Cedarville is a small rural town in the northeastern corner of California a few miles from Nevada. It's located in a rather flat valley below some high mountains in the Great Basin desert area. The mountains rise rapidly to the west, reaching elevations of 6000 within 2 miles and 9000 foot peaks. About 2 miles to the east is a large natural lake with no outlet. Another lake is shown in the valley further to the north. From 1930 until 1957, the time of day of observation was late afternoon, either sunset, 10 PM, or 6 PM. After 1957, the station was operated by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and observations were made at 8 AM. The change in time of day of observation from late in the day to early morning would tend to produce a negative bias in the data, which might explain the cooling noted by the Idsos. Also, the fact that the lake levels are the result of a balance of inflow and evaporation, the lake areas would reflect overall precipitation in the mountains on both sides of the valley. Decadal changes in precipitation patterns could thus be expected to impact temperatures at the nearby town. -- Eric Swanson --- E-mail address: e_swanson(at)skybest.com :-) -------------------------------------------------------------- |

There is PLENTY of warming in the State of California.
(Just ask any long term resident who has lived outdoors.) There is no significant trend in Cedarville, however. These data come from the hcn_calc_mean_data file. ~F/Dec Prob0.0 ST Station Name Lat Long AltFt Years 0.1908 1.000000 CA BERKELEY , 37.87 -122.27 299 , 109 0.4265 1.000000 CA BLYTHE , 33.62 -114.60 268 , 89 0.2347 1.000000 CA BRAWLEY 2SW , 32.95 -115.55 -100 , 91 0.0473 0.247324 CA CEDARVILLE , 41.53 -120.17 4670 , 44 0.1724 0.999999 CA CHICO UNIV FARM , 39.70 -121.82 185 , 100 0.2996 1.000000 CA CHULA VISTA , 32.60 -117.10 56 , 83 0.0945 0.935624 CA COLFAX , 39.10 -120.95 2410 , 97 0.1441 0.993618 CA CUYAMACA , 32.98 -116.58 4640 , 93 0.5025 1.000000 CA DAVIS EXP FARM 2WSW , 38.53 -121.77 60 , 95 0.3847 1.000000 CA DEATH VALLEY , 36.47 -116.87 -194 , 92 -0.2805 1.000000 CA ELECTRA PH , 38.33 -120.67 715 , 98 0.1559 1.000000 CA EUREKA WSO , 40.80 -124.17 43 , 116 0.1086 0.968537 CA FAIRMONT , 34.70 -118.43 3060 , 91 0.1456 0.999617 CA FORT BRAGG 5N , 39.50 -123.78 120 , 90 0.2563 1.000000 CA FRESNO WSO AP , 36.78 -119.72 336 , 108 0.1746 0.999999 CA HANFORD 1S , 36.30 -119.65 245 , 104 0.1017 0.982427 CA HAPPY CAMP RS , 41.80 -123.37 1120 , 87 0.3925 1.000000 CA HEALDSBURG , 38.62 -122.87 108 , 104 0.8574 1.000000 CA INDEPENDENCE , 36.80 -118.20 3950 , 53 0.1440 0.999927 CA INDIO FIRE STATION , 33.73 -116.27 -21 , 99 -0.0360 0.514105 CA LAKE SPAULDING , 39.32 -120.63 5156 , 89 0.1894 0.999989 CA LEMON COVE , 36.38 -119.03 513 , 99 0.4518 1.000000 CA LIVERMORE , 37.67 -121.77 480 , 98 0.3578 1.000000 CA LODI , 38.12 -121.28 40 , 95 0.4179 1.000000 CA MARYSVILLE , 39.15 -121.60 57 , 104 0.2273 1.000000 CA MERCED MUNICIPAL AP , 37.28 -120.52 153 , 104 0.2423 0.999999 CA MOUNT SHASTA , 41.32 -122.32 3590 , 99 0.4207 1.000000 CA NAPA STATE HOSPITAL , 38.28 -122.27 35 , 94 0.0601 0.863051 CA NEEDLES FAA AP , 34.77 -114.62 914 , 104 0.2285 0.999813 CA NEWPORT BEACH HARBOR , 33.60 -117.88 10 , 94 0.4506 1.000000 CA OJAI , 34.45 -119.23 750 , 93 -0.0836 0.977803 CA ORLAND , 39.75 -122.20 254 , 100 -0.1427 0.999149 CA ORLEANS , 41.30 -123.53 410 , 97 0.3356 1.000000 CA PASADENA , 34.15 -118.15 864 , 104 0.2153 1.000000 CA PASO ROBLES , 35.63 -120.68 700 , 108 0.2991 1.000000 CA PETALUMA FIRE STN #2 , 38.27 -122.65 31 , 90 0.6208 0.999147 CA QUINCY , 39.97 -120.95 3408 , 38 0.2613 0.988705 CA REDDING WSO , 40.50 -122.30 502 , 43 0.3438 1.000000 CA REDLANDS , 34.05 -117.18 1318 , 105 0.3690 1.000000 CA SAN LUIS OBISPO POLY , 35.30 -120.67 315 , 106 0.2176 1.000000 CA SANTA BARBARA , 34.42 -119.68 5 , 109 0.1469 0.999999 CA SANTA CRUZ , 36.98 -122.02 130 , 110 0.4077 1.000000 CA SANTA ROSA , 38.45 -122.70 167 , 101 0.0829 0.949643 CA SUSANVILLE AP , 40.38 -120.57 4146 , 104 0.4400 1.000000 CA TAHOE CITY , 39.17 -120.13 6230 , 94 0.0100 0.144407 CA TEJON RANCHO , 35.03 -118.75 1425 , 96 0.3093 1.000000 CA TUSTIN IRVINE RANCH , 33.73 -117.78 118 , 98 0.3125 1.000000 CA UKIAH , 39.15 -123.20 633 , 108 0.4429 1.000000 CA VACAVILLE , 38.40 -121.95 110 , 98 0.3453 1.000000 CA WASCO , 35.60 -119.33 345 , 103 0.3738 1.000000 CA WEAVERVILLE RS , 40.73 -122.93 2050 , 90 0.0182 0.428762 CA WILLOWS 6W , 39.52 -122.30 233 , 100 0.4169 1.000000 CA YOSEMITE PARK HEADQUARTERS , 37.75 -119.58 3966 , 97 0.0734 0.884800 CA YREKA , 41.72 -122.63 2625 , 97 |
