Does anyone know where I can find an archive of surface analysis maps
(MSLP, fronts etc.) covering the East and South China seas?

Have you checked out these as provided by the Aus Bureau of Met at
http://www.bom.gov.au/nmoc/MSL/index.shtml

The SE Asian MSLP (Manual) may suit you.

Here is the list of archive products..........

Australian Region

Upper Level Analyses: (from 1 January 2004 )
850 hPa 700 hPa 500 hPa 400 hPa 300 hPa 250 hPa 200 hPa


SE Asia/Western Pacific (from 1 December 1999)
