We paid about $100 for this weather station and plan on buying the
optional rain gauge for $20. Anyone know if these are any good. I did a search and it looks like stations with similar features are at least $40 more. Never had a weather station before so am definitely in the dark here. Is it a keeper?? It is unopened, so we could easily return it. Thanks for any help. Bob Henninger |

It may have a special model number for a special retailer? Alex |

I have the La Crosse 2310 -- wireless unit (rain gauge, wind sensor,
Thermo-Hygro sensor). Whole unit then connects to a PC running Weather Display. Having been running just under one full year. Looking at the wind sensor picture of the 2317 -- it looks very similar to mine. If I understand the La Crosse support web site the 2317 is a Sam's Club special. Overall I've been happy with La Crosse though there are a couple of quirks 1. Wind Sensor is not the best design in the world - I wish they would move away from the propeller design to a more tradition spinning cups. The vane has a +/- 22.5 degree error so wind direction can be off a little. 2. Mine exhibits a rather interesting feature when the battery is on it's way out in the outdoor Thermo unit. If it rains the rain gauge collects data and then after a short period the exterior temp and wind sensors do not return values but pressure and dew point is collected. The data flat lines for maybe an hour. As the battery becomes more depleted the data flat lines for longer. Eventually I got the ladder out and changed the battery and everything works fine. The software I got with the La Crosse is "ok" but I wanted something to do evapotranspiration for my vegetables and also to upload data to the web (wunderground.com) -- so I went with Weather Display. Other than these couple of niggles I've been pretty please with the La Crosse 2310 which, certainly in terms of the sensors, looks to be very similar My two cents worth, Regards, Edward "wizard2" wrote in message ... Edward,
Thank you very much for taking the time to help. I decided to keep the weather station and order the rain gauge and software. Thanks too for the Weather Display tip. I took a quick look at their web site and it looks like something I may want after I get used to the basics. Is that software likely to work with my weather station??
