Default Cracks or Cryovolcanoes? Surface Geology Creates Clouds on Titan

That was not how I read it. The article said:

'Clouds can also form over mountains when prevailing winds force air
upward, but in that case the clouds should always appear in the
identical locations.
"We see the clouds regularly appear in the same geographic region, but
not always in the exact same location," says Roe.'

That would seem to be referring to clouds that form on the up slopes of
mountains. Mountain waves form downwind of mountains - in other
words lee waves. I have considerable experience of mountain waves on
earth having flown gliders in these waves for many hundreds of hours.
It is well know that the distance downwind of the source mountain
depends on many factors such as wind speed or the stability (or
instability) of the airmass. Wavelengths on earth can vary from as
little as 3-4 kilometres to many tens of kilometres. On Titan with its
very different meteorology, these figures could vary my much more.

So lee mountain waves do regularly form in the same general area but
the exact location depends on very many factors.

Jack
