I hope this question is not out of line for this group.

I just want a simple thermometer that will connect to my computer, with
software that will check the temp every so often and keep a record of it.

The closest thing I can find using Google cost $200 or so. This is for my 10
year old Cub Scout, not a commercial application, does anyone make a $29
model?

Well that's a lot closer than anything I found. Thanks!

Unfortunately it is still a little out of range. The price point has to be
at a level where it's not easier to send the little boy out to check the
thermometer himself 8-)

Actually we want it so that we can continue to record data while we are away
from our house. Maybe I will have to wait another year, but someone
somewhere should be working on a simple thermometer that will just report
the temp over a bluetooth or usb.
