Still Republican cynics say there's no such thing as global warming.

Your statement would be more useful if you included more
information --- where was the January warmest? Eau Claire
WI? Wisconsin? The Midwestern US? The US? North
America? The northern Hemisphere?

It makes a difference when you're talking about _global_
warming.

That's right, the average surface temp of the US is a negligible
contributor to the surface of the whole planet. :-P

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...k/geos/us.html

Area - total: 9,631,418 sq km

Area - comparative:
about half the size of Russia; about three-tenths the size of Africa;
about half the size of South America (or slightly larger than Brazil);
slightly larger than China; almost two and a half times the size of
the European Union

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/...k/geos/xx.html

Area - total: 510.072 million sq km
note: 70.8% of the world's surface is water, 29.2% is land

Area - comparative:
land area about 16 times the size of the US

Ergo: the USofA is about 6.25% of the earth's area.

Aw, you did his work for him. So if 6.25% of the globe has
1 warm month, is the globe warming overall?
