More details on the tropical air stream moving up through Mexico, curling East and clobbering from Utah to Long Island... http://www.wkyc.com/weather/wx_artic...?storyid=54185 Northwest Ohio hit again with strong storms. TOLEDO -- Parts of Toledo that were hit by severe storms two weeks ago are dealing with the return of flooded basements, standing water on roads and power outages. Officials with Toledo police and the Lucas County sheriff's office say things aren't as bad as the storms that hit June 21st to June 23rd -- but residents are still reporting similar problems. http://www.wabashplaindealer.com/art...ews/local1.txt Storms cause problems around Wabash County -- Sunday evening, July 2, a band of severe weather passed through Wabash County, downing trees and electrical lines between County Road 400N and Ind. 16. The Roann and Urbana areas were perhaps worst hit. Between 7:30 and 8 p.m., that area experienced heavy rain and winds gusting to 70 mph. http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/p.../60704015/1008 5,000 lose power in storms -- More than 5,000 Delmarva Power customers are without electricity across Delaware tonight after severe thunderstorms struck across the state, the company reports on its Web site. http://www.whas11.com/topstories/sto....26b5dd87.html Severe storms threaten Fourth of July festivities -- The National Weather Service put out a severe thunderstorm warning for the Louisville metro area until 5 p.m. The weather service said the storm could produce damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. There were also reports of excessive lightning with the storm. Officials advised to take cover indoors until the storm passed. http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_4011928 Thunderstorms knock out power, temperatures plummet -- Mother Nature celebrated the Fourth of July by holding her own fireworks show Tuesday afternoon as lightning strikes shot to the ground, knocking out power to about16,000 homes and businesses along the Wasatch Front. The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 3:45 p.m. because of rain and heavy winds. It was lifted at 4:15 p.m. in the Salt Lake area and by 6 p.m. in Weber County. The criteria for such warnings include winds blowing more than 58 mph and hail larger than three quarters of an inch. Lead forecaster Pete Wilensky said the disturbance consisted of a cluster of thunderstorms that formed over the Wasatch Mountains and spread into the valley. Cold air mixed with rain produced 60 mph winds in some areas of Salt Lake City and Ogden, he said. http://www.newsday.com/news/local/lo...-top-headlines Lightning bolts jolt the Island -- At least six are hurt and a building burns as lightning wreaks havoc ahead of the fireworks -- Lightning strikes yesterday critically injured a Coram woman wading in Long Island Sound, sent five children on a Uniondale baseball field to the hospital, and was the suspected cause of a large warehouse fire, also in Uniondale, authorities said. http://www.statesman.com/news/conten...7/5fourth.html Fireworks canceled in surrounding cities; flash flood warning in effect. -- Fireworks competed with nature's pyrotechnics Tuesday, but Austin kept the sizzle in the Fourth of July, despite rain and lightning. Intense rain fizzled out planned fireworks in some surrounding cities, including Round Rock, which had an inch of rain earlier in the day, and Cedar Park. Those cancellations came as the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for much of Central Texas until 6 a.m. today. |
