Interesting glitch in the N Atlantic huricane season he
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gifs/atlhist_lowres.gif It would seem that long before the scientists in Atarctica started going Doolali with hair spray, there were about five years with no F 3 or greater hurricanes in the basin. Not that I would understand how they could verify a cat 3 in the 1860's. That was in early days of the board of trade's efforts to establish a weather office of some sort. I wonder if the increase in their number is anything to do with the ability of ships to go through them long enough for surviving crew to report back on the conditions. I wonder how a cat 2 would show up on the Beaufort Scale. "F13 Dashed Bad Hurricane There is no air, just foam. Sea close enough to touch; breathing difficult; half the squadron sunk."? "F16 ****** Hell! Glug, glug, glug." |
