Default Yet Another Simplified Explanation of CO2 as a Greenhouse Gas

For those who have not quite mastered the concept yet,
below is the URL to yet another simplified explanation of
CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

http://www.exo.net/~pauld/workshops/...xidemodels.htm

Thank you, Mr. Tom Adams and the globalchange newsgroup.

Too complicated.
1) CO2 in the atmosphere traps heat in the thin layer of air around
the earth. As does a blanket around your body.
2) Trapping heat in the thin layer of air around the earth will warm
it up. As does a blanket around your body.
3) It doesn't have to trap a large proportion of the heat to make the
earth warm up a few degrees. As does a blanket around your body.
4) The various complex processes which occur on earth will find new
equilibrium points and the complex living systems which occur on earth
will start to not function well if its temperature rises more than a
few degrees above the point to which living systems evolved to adapt.
As will your body.

Do you stand by the assertion that:

"Half the time the reradiated infrared is sent back down toward the ground."

Until we have your report to us of your personal
experiences directly handling a single CO2 molecule,
Dunderbar, models must remain important theoretical tools.

It doesn't matter now. It's too late to reverse it. Learn to swim.

If if is re-radiated in a random direction then half it is directed
below the plane tangent to the Earths surface.

I guess you can quibble that that's not literally toward the ground,
but the demo is an informal presentation.

And there is another layer of greenhouse gas below each
one, which absorbs and re-emits in all directions, half upward.

That means either the air should get much warmer, or
that the sum total radiation is mostly upward.
