Hi
We need to buy a new weather station as the one we have now isn't working very well and we're finding it hard to get local support. Currently we have a Davis Weather Monitor II but it's reading are all wrong, unreliable and it's old so it's time to change. The reader is up on the roof, and we have a receiver in a room downstairs which then links to a computer to store the data (sorry if my terminology is wrong - I don't know much about weather stations). As we are not really up with weather stations, we are hoping that someone might be able to make a few suggestions as to which will meet our needs. We're located in Brisbane, Australia, so we will need local support should anything go wrong (onsite support would be good). The items we need to be able to monitor include: - Wind direction - Wind speed - Outside temperature - Outside humidity - Barometer - Daily rainfall We need this to be updated at least every five minutes and we need it to be logged so that we can get reports from certain past dates. I've read about wireless models - is that where the reader and receiver talk to each other without cables (is it that obvious?). This would be good but are they reliable? Any thought and suggestions will be greatly received. Cheers! Bobbie. Queensland Fire and Rescue Service |

Oh, and I should add that we need to be able to show the data on a
website, so it needs to be able to export it's data somehow. Make sense? Thanks. |

Ecowatch, located at Kilsyth, Victoria, are Davis agents that provide pretty good service throughout Oz. No onsite service, but Express Post is pretty quick these days. Telephone (03) 9761 7040 (they don't have a website) -- Alvin Petersen is the man to talk to. A wireless Vantage Pro with data logger should do everything you want. The station will communicate directly with the console, without cables, up to reasonable distance within direct line of sight (100 metre or so). The data logger goes inside the console and connects to your computer's serial port. Mine's an older model that's given very little trouble over five years or so. I upload my data to Weather Underground using the Davis software. Only downside is that daily rainfall is recorded midnight to midnight (not 9 am like BoM) but there are ways around it. Ecowatch have always been happy to provide printed catalogues and price lists, along with reliable advice and aftersales service. -- John H |
