It appears that we now have another tool for trawling news archives:
http://news.google.com/archivesearch...&lr=&scoring=t

I'm not sure how good it is or how sharp one's search skills need to
be but it might prove interesting, even revealing.

I wonder if Reuters could come up with something. I wonder if they
have data banks worth trawling.

I don't know much about search strings but just wrote their feedback
to ask if something like this can be set up:

I wonder if you could add a gear to it so that we might delve
newspaper and scientific archives for specific content the way that
putting a word for the type of data one is looking for followed by a
colon will find specific stuff on your regular search engine..

Or maybe an whole string of them:
Weather: Periodicals: Newspapers: Magazines: Britain: then the
subject. eg snow.

I gather that you can look up certain subjects in their regular search
engine by specifying a specific with a colon. I only know one such
genus is:
Lyrics:

And one that isn't:

Of course, what is not interesting is the weather in the UK! Poor
Weatherman, he needs to move someplace where there is weather.
