Press Release: SOLO - Sense of Life Objectivists

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO0802/S00344.htm

Two cheers for Al Gore on his about-face on man-made Global Warming,
says SOLO Principal, Lindsay Perigo.

"Gore's renunciation of a cause whose Number One cheerleader he has been
for so long is a triumph of the scientific spirit. Confronted by
mounting evidence that the sceptics were right and he was wrong,

Gore has chosen to go with the evidence, and that is admirable."

Up to a point.

Gore acknowledged Thursday that recent cooling trends as manifest in
China's coldest winter in 100 years, Baghdad's first snow ever, North
America's greatest snow cover in 50 years, record levels of Antarctic
sea ice and record cold in a number of countries in both hemispheres
appear set to continue.

He cited the fact that all major global temperature tracking agencies
(Hadley, NASA, GISS, UAH, RSS) have released data showing that over the
past year, global temperatures have dropped dramatically, from between
0.65C and 0.75C, enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over
the past 100 years.

You've been corrected repeatedly that this is false.

All in one year, and the single fastest temperature change ever
recorded, either up or down.

You are lying.

Gore quoted Kenneth Tapping, of Canada's National Research Council, who
oversees a giant radio telescope focused on the sun and is convinced the
earth is destined for a long period of severely cold weather if solar
activity does not pick up soon: "The last time the sun was this
inactive, Earth suffered the Little Ice Age that lasted about five
centuries and ended in 1850."

Here's a Tapping quote:

"Thanks for the message. The stuff on the [IBD] web came from a casual
chat with someone who managed to misunderstand what I said and then
put the result on the web, which is probably a big caution for me
regarding the future.

It is true that the beginning of the next solar cycle is late, but
not so late that we are getting worried, merely curious.

It is the opinion of scientists, including me, that global warming
is a major issue, and that it might be too late to do anything about
it already. If there is a cooling due to the solar activity cycle
laying off for a bit, then the a period of solar cooling could be a
much-needed respite giving us more time to attack the problem of
greenhouse gases, with the caveat that if we do not, things will be
far worse when things turn on again after a few decades. However, once
again it is early days and we cannot at the moment conclude there is
another minimum started."

So once again, Bonzo misrepresents, distorts, and lies.
