Could that be, becuase Mars is 1.5 times further from the Sun than the Earth, and therfore sunlight is less than half as strong at mars than it is on earth? Not to mention the relevance of overall atmospheric density, which is much lower on Mars and higher on Venus, or magnetic fields, which Mars barely has. People keep talking about this like it's a clear broth. It's more like a stew, folks. There's more than enough nuance to go around. I wish I had the time to go through the original post point by point, but it's too damn long. Not to completely disagree, there is a funky side to some advocates in both camps and neither is serving the greatest good.
