Default Box shaped lighting strikes?!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlfLf...eature=related

Freeze frame at 0:25, and you will see a lighting strike with
lighting in the form of a box
at the cloud end of the strike. I read of a very smiler happening in a
post about hurricane Andrew:

An old farmer down in Goulds told me that he looked out and saw
lightning in the form of a box. Immediately after that the worst part
hit
(probably the eye wall) he told me that the windows blew out and
started sucking
his family out of the house. It took all of his strength just to hold
onto
the doorjamb. He escaped to the kitchen, nudged the refrigerator -
which
caused it to fall down across the doorjamb. All the food was sucked
from the refrigerator and out of the house. The whole family packed
themselves
against the refrigerator to keep from getting sucked (blown?) out of
the house.

He also indicated that just before the worst part hit, there was an
eerie
"hot" mist about. He said that it actually burned. I'm thinking that
this
may have been the eye and he may have gotten events jumbled. Who of
us
wouldn't when living through such terror?

I would be extremely interested in a scientific explanation of this
"mist phenomenon" of which the farmer spoke. Goulds is about ten
miles
from the center of where Andrew hit.

Note: One person indicated that it might have been sea-water. This
would seem
logical since the farmer's home was about 3 or 4 miles from the
coast.

thanks in advance,
Dan Thomas

Can't tell from the image if it's a box or just a fork that recombines.

A venturi effect might be caused by the updraught taking the pressure
down even further than 950mb or whatever the pressure in the area was.

In that case the skin of living things might feel the effect.
Pressures going down to tropopause height pressures (500mb?) almost
instantaneously might do it.

I have no idea.
It would explain the mist too.

A physicist could get an estimate of likely pressure differences on a
site that discusses artillery or something... What is that word?

... or possibly an erratic pseudo-helix. You may be looking at a
squarish corkscrew end-on.

A second image from a different perspective would have been useful in
providing parallax for distance measurements.

How many strikes are there?
I see three frames present:

Another take on Newton's geste on the difference between the artisan
and the architect.

One can always rely on the first "Time" Machine having the kick start
outside the box, whichever model comes out the design room. And an
extension lead that is far too short.

Note to self:
If I ever get around to taking pictures of ephemera, I must endeavour
to be in two places at once.

OTOH, it sounds more like compression. If you look at photos of jets
approaching the sound barrier (or at lower speeds at high humidity)
you may see such mists appearing.

And with compression there is heat evolved.
Hard to explain that though. Logic suggests decompression.

Bloody hell if that were true, and tornadoes operate by compression at
their base, it would stand meteorology on its head.
