"Bob Hawke" wrote in message ... wrote in message .... IS GLOBAL WARMING THE DEATH OF THE SNOW INDUSTRY ? A little premature methinks, as Australia suffers from the big chill!!!! The big chill was felt across virtually all over the eastern seaboard and the ski fields at Perisher in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains enjoyed a 15cm dump of snow. And SNOW IN TROPICAL QUEENSLAND!!!! Snow In Tropical Queensland, Rain In Sydney And Icy Delays In Adelaide July 29, 2008 Snow in Queensland, and colder weather to come Sydneysiders shivering in bitter cold, driving rain Rain or snow - check your local weather forecast IT has snowed in Queensland, and it will pay to rug up because even colder weather is expected tomorrow. Snow, sleet, wind and rain ripped through the state's Granite Belt and southern Darling Downs, bringing freezing conditions yesterday. The big chill was felt across virtually all over the eastern seaboard and the ski fields at Perisher in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains enjoyed a 15cm dump of snow. In Sydney, *the city's maximum temperature struggled to top 14C, with the mercury plunging 3C in an hour mid-afternoon, down to just 10C at 3pm (AEST). Meanwhile, one of Adelaide's coldest mornings forced the delay of flights yesterday as ice formed on the wings of planes. Adelaide Airport managing director Phil Baker said up to 400 passengers were due to leave about 7am but their flights were delayed until about 8.15am, when the air temperature increased. Shivering Sydneysiders should receive a reprieve from the cold and rain tomorrow. But Brisbane is tipped to experience temperatures down to 6C early tomorrow and Thursday. Yesterday, Granite Belt Wine Country marketing director Michele Cozzi said snow was reported at Eukey, south of Stanthorpe, and at Sugarloaf Forest to the east while sleet was recorded at Stanthorpe, Glen Aplin and Applethorpe. Forecaster Gavin Holcombe said no records were broken despite widespread cold conditions. "In my experience we get snow maybe once a year around the Granite Belt,'' he said. Dairy farmer Wes Judd of Yangan, near Warwick, was moving about 350 head of cattle into shelter yesterday, as freezing conditions hit his farm. "It's pretty cold,'' he said at noon. "I haven't taken my coat and beanie off yet.'' Snowflakes Nat Burton of Thulimbah near Stanthorpe said the area had had three small snowfalls but there had been more to the south at Eukey. "It was just beautiful; huge snowflakes falling on a gorgeous winter's day,'' Ms Burton said. "I've got three layers on, with a scarf and gloves and my feet are still cold." Temperatures for Brisbane over the next week are predicted to range from 6C to 25C, with fresh southwest winds. In Sydney, the rain is expected to ease with the city expecting sunny breaks tomorrow and a top of 17C. Thursday is tipped to reach 18C, and a much more pleasant 20C is predicted for Friday. With The Courier-Mail, Daily Telegraph and The Advertiser http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/a.../heraldsun/com... -- Warmest Regards Bonzo "The question scientists should now be asking is not how much it will warm over the next 50 to 100 years, but why has it warmed so little during the major carbon dioxide buildup?" Patrick J. Michaels, Environmental Scientist , University of Virginia Thank you Mr Bonzo for your communication and it illustrates indeed shifting weather patterns, relative to perturbation in tropospheric tropical & equatorial exchanges. In clear the met. machine is not working anymore bringing as it does heavier cold air upon Australia, which should rightly be sent over lower latitude still, and returned as moisture bearing system coming from the warmer North seas. The corollary of such situation is easy to draw for such perceptive gentleman as you are indeed, and it clearly means that warmer air is drawn into the Antarctic & feed in at a greater pace than was previously anticipated... leading to a situation where even in Winter Time Glaciers are calving in Patagonia and in the Ross Sea.... NASA anticipates 20 m sea rise by 2050, but as you know the process of Global Warming has completely bolted to the point where projections established for 2040 in the Arctic & Greenland have been met this very year 2008. My considerate estimate as a True Geologist is that the NASA forecasts will be achieved in 2010 indeed ! The nagging question : IS SYDNEY & THE REST OF AUSTRALIA READY FOR A 20 m SEA RAISE ?
