Polar bears keep growing in numbers, Antarctic ice keeps expanding, deserts keep receding, temperatures keep easing, the ranks of science skeptics keep multiplying. It's tough to scare people with that kind of sound-science evidence. Now the folk at DeSmogblog - created like so many alarmist sites for the sole purpose of attacking conservatives, libertarians and global warming skeptics - is getting really worried. DeSmogblog toted up the 2008 online battle this way: References to "global warming" and "hoax" soared 125 percent to 49,719 citations in 2008; GW and "lie" jumped 101 percent to 100,770; "alarmist" increased 97 percent to 27,298, and "skeptic" (our favorite) rose 93 percent to 73,956 citations. "We're also seeing more people than ever using the internet as their main source of news and information," DeSmogblog posted recently. "Legislators are going to be very hard pressed to implement strict new greenhouse gas regulations if almost a majority of the public believes that climate change has nothing to do with human activity." Ya think? http://www.opposingviews.com/article...rows-in-global... Warmest Regards Bonzo Anyone denies global warming should brought before the courts, put on trial for crimes against humanity and crimes against planet Earth. **Well, not really. They need to hang their heads in shame for ignoring basic science, they should have learned in school. The whacko AGW crowd need to hang their heads in shame for ignoring basic science, they should have learned in school. **What basic science would that be? Let's recap: * CO2 levels are rising faster and higher than at any time in the last 600,000 years. SO? THIS IS GOOD. **Nope. The extra CO2 is causing the planet to warm. * CO2 is a known TRACE greenhouse gas WHICH HAS A NEGLIBLE EFFECT ON TEMPERATURE.. **Bull****. The accepted contribution lies between 9% and 26%. The variation depends on when and where. Assuming you have an income, how would you consider a fall in income of 25%? Would you consider than negligible? There's a fun little analogy which illustrates the silliness of the CO2 as a percentage of total atmospheric GHGs claim. Imagine that you are trying to contain a bushfire. It's already alight, and the vast bulk of the fuel mass is there. One of your air cranes starts dumping kerosene instead of water on fire hotspots ... The total percentage of the fuel represented by kerosene is negligible, so adding kerosene makes no difference. Correct? Fran |
