Default Newest Balloon Data Show a Warming Globe!

Newest Balloon Data Show a Warming Globe!

For years now, I've posted the Angell balloon launch time
series on the alt.global-warming forum. These data stopped
updating in 2005 and their author, Dr. Angell, has died.
The new balloon surface data to track the increasing global
warming unveiled here are known as the RATPAC-A series. (No!
To my knowledge, Frank, Sammy, Dino, Joey, Peter. Angie, and
Shirley have nothing to do with these data.)

While these data represent fewer measurement sites than other
ground temperature series, the individual measurements probably
come from better instruments than those found at the average
ground station. The ground reading is used to calibrate the
radiosonde before the balloon carries it aloft, and therefore,
this measurement is likely done on a reference thermometer.

There is a RATPAC-B series. It actually shows an increased
warming rate. However, the documentation listed below says
that it is less reliable to track global warming. (A spin
doctor would use the B series without comment, but I aspire
to more than that.)

The data are found in the "year" and "surf" columns of the
"GLOBE" section of this file:

Roger, can you tell us, where the "higher surface warming" shown in your
radio
sonde measurements comes from?

I can.
It is about the same problem like with GISS data: Human failure
It is simply a wrong handling of the radio sondes, like it can be seen on
www.surfacestations.org with GISS/GHCN surface stations.

You don't believe?
Call me a liar, but what I found, calls you wrong.
Some simple examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ylMhB6xqp0

Coming out of a hangar without time to adapt to exterior temperature,
start in less than a minute.
Radio sonde held in hand (warming).
Radio sonde exposed to sun.

Coming out of a hangar without time to adapt to exterior temperature,
start in less than a minute.
Radio sonde adjustment indoor(!).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2Q07yBN7PQ

Antarctica
Radio sonde comes straight out of a heated hangar, holding it in the hand,
and
launched it after 20 seconds(!) without time to adapt exterior
temperatures.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auwySx8MruU

Antarctica again
Radio sonde comes straight out of a heated hangar, holding it in the hand,
and
launched it after 15 seconds(!) without time to adapt exterior
temperatures.

... and there are tons of videos more.

THIS is where your "great" surface warming comes from.

Obviously you try to find more alarming data series and catch at a straw
after
your previous data series began to show "warming failure".

This is a good observations.
Sadly, the lack of good data remains common. It is not at all surprising to
see that the sonde procedures are not followed and data are not carefully
controlled.

AIUI, when radiosondes were first introduced, they were primarily for
conditions at altitude. Surface conditions were already known.

I wonder how much confusion has arisen from the use of historical data
originally intended for some other purpose, but then "corrected" to match
expectations.
