She's entitled to have any view she likes on gay marriage. Regardl;ess
of her views, she should have the same legal entitlements as everyone
else. However, the right to have one's own opinion does not entail the
right to deny others the right to take exception and respond in ways
not prohibited by law.

This was a vote that depended in part on her views about current
issues. Had she won, it would have been argued that this was an
endorsement of opposition to reform of marriage laws in favour of
gays.

So whether one voted for her or against her to win was not about her
right to an opinion but rather, about whether one wanted to endorse
this view or not and whether at the level of public culture, the
competition should be anti-gay marriage.

I'm happy that her views were repudiated, if that's indeed what
happened.

Why should someone's views on mariage exclude one from winning a
contest of any kind.
