Deadly Duo of Obama-Gore Deceit on Cap and Trade
By Dr. Tim Ball Monday, May 4, 2009 The art of government is the organization of idolatry: George Bernard Shaw Staying Above the Fray To establish and maintain idolatry you must have someone do the dirty work. President Obama may claim he didn’t want idolatry but he did nothing to dampen excessive expectations fuelled by what conservative commentator Bernie Goldberg called slobbering of the mainstream media. He raised his own bar when he set out very precise definitions of openness and transparency for his administration. A Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies issued by the White house says, My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Notice this only applies to the Executive Branch Departments as division of powers in the US Constitution requires. This means the Congress is not bound by this dictum and so the Democratic majority in Congress can do the dirty work. The need to get the Cap and Trade policy through is a case in point. It’s essential to Obama’s plan to control carbon and energy, but also to provide over $625 billion of revenue for his budget. (Others say $634 billion, but what’s a billion here or there?) Obama presents Cap and Trade as essential to stopping global warming by reducing atmospheric CO2. It won’t because it allows people to produce the same amount or more by buying the privilege and passing the cost to the consumer. It also requires ignoring the scientific evidence that CO2 is not causing warming. Obama can’t do that because if he has a public presentation on climate and climate change he must follow his clear, concise, and unqualified policy. However, even he must be embarrassed by the shameless and shameful actions of those who tacitly did his dirty work. How it was done. Where better to provide an uncontested, controlled, and manipulated forum to push a climate related issue than the House Energy and Commerce Committee, whose chair Henry Waxman had promised a Cap and Trade bill by Memorial Day. Waxman is completely ignorant of climate science. Consider his asinine statement on the Tavis Smiley NPR program that, “We’re seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate, and we could get to a tipping point. Because if it evaporates to a certain point - they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. And if it gets to a point where it evaporates too much, there’s a lot of tundra that’s being held down by that ice cap.” This is ignorance that makes you realize he can’t understand any of the material presented to his committee. Barefaced display of power, arrogance, ignorance and fear Obama couldn’t block debate or prevent balance before a public hearing on something as critical as climate and energy policy, but that doesn’t bother Waxman and the Democrats. They used Al “the science is settled” Gore to show how the climate science demanded the action. They stifled debate because he was the only person allowed to present on the climatic justification for Cap and Trade. In a barefaced display of power, arrogance, ignorance and fear the Democrats blocked the appearance of Lord Monckton as requested by the Republicans. Monckton eminently suited to counteract Gore’s scientific rubbish Monckton, a cabinet member and science advisor in Margaret Thatcher’s government was eminently suited to counteract Gore’s scientific rubbish. Author of a devastating critique of Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” his previous challenge for a debate had been turned aside. He has effectively shown Gore’s ignorance of the science and misuse of the facts. Of course, Gore has consistently avoided debate and controlled question opportunities. In March, 2009 he was scheduled to appear with Czech President Vaclav Klaus at the Wall Street Journal’s ECO;nomics Conference in California. Apparently, according to Washington Times reporter Greg Pierce, when Gore discovered he would likely have to debate Klaus, he changed his schedule, appeared the day before and was gone by the time Klaus arrived. Klaus said he came specifically to have an exchange with Gore about global warming and didn’t understand his reluctance to engage with others. Fear of debate or challenge has always directed Gore and it implies he knows the falsity of his material and arguments. But ignorance of the subject has not stopped him and this presentation again cherry picked and distorted natural events presenting them as unnatural. It is a disgrace when somebody with his influence uses it to stop debate and then disseminates fear based on false unchallenged information. His presentation followed his standard format; first he references a big name from the past, in this case Senator Vandenberg; then he identifies a well known successful government program, here the Marshall Plan, although neither have any parallels or relevance to global warming; he then claims the moral high ground here with the statement “It (climate crisis) is truly a moral imperative”, which identifies those as immoral who do not agree. He followed this with “scientific evidence of how serious this climate crisis is becoming…” Unfortunately, the facts he presents are incorrect or speculative. One statement is particularly galling and false. “Carbon dioxide pollution is changing the very chemistry of our ocean.” Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant and has changed the chemistry of the oceans for billions of years. He made no mention of the decline in global temperatures since 2000 while CO2 levels increased. His presentation was a cunningly crafted piece of political propaganda but again this is no surprise. One week before Gore received the Nobel Prize, a British judge ruled on his movie “An Inconvenient Truth” that, It is now common ground that it is not simply a science film – although it is clear that it is based substantially on scientific research and opinion – but that it is a political film, albeit of course not party political. He also ruled there were major scientific errors and ordered the UK government to provide warnings for students viewing the movie in the classroom. A similar warning is necessary for all Gore presentations. But just to prove he is not about science or facts he resorted to personal attacks by comparing those who question his views to Bernie Madoff, when cornered by Representative Joe Barton at the Waxman hearings. Newt Gingrich came in to provide an opposing view and wisely did not attempt to challenge the climate science. He, like all other presenters, spoke only for or against the energy implications of Cap and Trade. In the gamesmanship of Washington they could claim both sides of the argument were presented. It is a false claim because all presentations were based on the fundamental assumption that CO2 is causing global warming so their presentations are actually irrelevant. Trampling on Democracy Because the End Justifies the Means. Obama can argue that idolatry was not his goal but the reality is he set the tone and raised the level of expectation. Setting a high standard is a noble goal and easy to do, but it sets a demanding and restricted expectation. Maintaining it is a real problem in a democracy especially when pushing an agenda or retaining power are major objectives. One way is to remain above the fray and have others do the dirty work, but this is inherently deceitful. Obama could not have public hearings about global warming as the basis for his Cap and Trade program without transparency and balance so the House Democrats with the fallacious assistance of Al Gore obliged. Obama must know what went on. He should be ashamed and embarrassed by the charade and perversion of democracy carried out by his party, but he has apparently washed his hands in the White House to maintain his idolatry. Maybe long time Washington political commentator Irving F Stone was right when he said; “Every government is run by liars and nothing they say should be believed.” |

The argument is over. The debate is over. The EPA has declared that AGW is real and CO2 is the cause. There is nothing more to say. The issue is dead. CO2 is a pollutant and that opens the door to taxes, prohibitions and "cap and trade". Face it. YOU LOST. YOUR SIDE LOST. THE DEBATE IS OVER. Get over it. |
