Of course, the actual date of Good Friday and Easter really doesn't need to
be fixed, it's just the holdiays attached to them that should be (this
year's Good Friday Bank Holiday was like any other...

For Birmingham Winterbourne it was the coldest winter since 1978/9 and the
9th coldest since records began in 1881.

BTW, the riased beaches are nothing to do with past ocean levels -
they are a consequent of the retreat of the ice sheets, removing the wieght
of the weight of the ice over the land...

The 30cm soil temperature at Birmingham Wintyerbourne is currently 0.5C - so
little heat to keep the surface from freezing. Certainly last night the
surface froze pretty easily even though the air...

A good 11-12cm at Droitwich with ~7-8cm of newo snow overnight.Still light
snow/snow grains at 17:30.

As John said, in Winter the mean min/max will tend to be warmer than the
1s/1min average. Conversely I would expect that in the summer the mean
min/max will be cooler than the 1s/1min...

Plenty of rain on the radar over the W.Midlands - but none reaching the
surface - most of it is 1-6km altitude but evaporating on the way down,
which is odd since the dew points are not that low....

several sites, including Winterbourne) - showing a similar trend.

I suspect the 'Birmingham' white Christmas was really
'Nottingham' - I've had to contact the MO before when they (conversely)
wrote down "Winterbourne, University of Nottingham"...

Yeap 'Winterbourne' is the University site - and yes, the rain on
Friday was pretty torrential, so the 32.6mm is about right. On Saturday a
cell developed over Birmingham itself...

10.7C maximum temperature at Birmingham Winterbourne on the 6th June - not
the coldest (which was 9.0C set in 1985), but takes second place (records
running since 1881). Interesting that D-Day only...
