2011 summer not a good one.

worth noting that we had a week away on Skye in mid July and had a pretty
decent week...one wet day but it was.always comfortably warm (but not too
hot for enjoying walking) and at least three days...

I think much of yesterday's rain was 'orographically enhanced' - strong
southwesterly winds bringing a deep layer of warm, moist air (in
meteorological terms a warm conveyor belt) which condenses...

The lowest for England in 1982 was -26C at Newport,

The current situation

Two additions I think............1969 and 1970 also had easterly spells to
end December.... and in both cases the first week of January was very cold
(severe northerly spell in early Jan 1970) but...

Yes, a small but quite active storm passed just to the west of Oxford from 7
to 7-45pm.....thunder 3 times a minute for a while.
