We have had the builders in and in like good chaps whilst working they
removed my temperature sensor unit from the wall and left it hanging by the
wire. I have since noticed that when I switch on the monitor the
temperature just rises and rises, at the moment it's showing 49.5c, humidity
at 59%.

I have had a quick look for replacement units and was a bit taken back by
the cost. Therefore before I go any further does anyone have any ideas. I
thought that maybe a wire in the cable has broken as it's been hanging by
this for a week or so. The unit has also been hanging upside down and I
wondered if that may have caused it to fail.

I wondered If the wire was broken can you access the unit easily?

Any help much appreciated.

I wonder if water has got into it, have you got it back in it's correct
position again now? Just a thought.

I will have a check in the morning as I quickly fixed it up, so maybe it's
upside down again.

I'm just concerned that when it rained last week the water went inside

Get the builders to replace it for you? If they broke it, then they
should fix it!

One assumes it if was hanging it would have been upside down and got
flooded. As has already been posted warn your builders (foreman and
company boss) that the sensor has been damaged by their actions and
you expect them to pay for the replacement. You might have to meet
them half way as you didn't tell them that it was a delicate bit of
kit and needed careful treatment but *they* didn't ask you what it was
and did it need protecting...

You can say you are going to attempt a repair but still hold them
liable. Take it down, take it apart, clean it up and leave it in the
airing cupboard, disassembled, for 48 hrs. Reassemble and test, it
might come back.

Thanks for the suggestions, will speak to the builders and attempt the
airing cupboard method. Does anyone know of these sensors are soldered to
the wires inside?

Thanks

Assuming it's the 7859 temp/hum sensor you're asking about:

http://www.davisnet.com/product_docu...sensor_std.pdf

This is all the information that's readily available and doesn't for
example show the pinouts on the connector. But it may help?
