Default Today's model interpretation (10/10/05)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Friday. Issued 0540z,
10/10/05.

The models show a largely settled weekend over England and Wales, with
windier (and probably wetter) conditions for Northern Ireland and Scotland
due to their proximity to an Atlantic low. High pressure to the NE will be
the dominant feature for the weekend though and with winds feeding in from
the Continent it should be largely sunny over England and Wales, with the
exception of eastern coastal areas.

ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif
High pressure covers much of the UK, with SW'lies for Wales, Scotland and
Northern Ireland. The high drifts eastwards at T+144, bringing SE'lies over
England and southerlies elsewhere. By day 7 the UK lies under easterlies,
SE'lies and southerlies as high pressure builds over Scandinavia.

MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif
MetO shows high pressure over Denmark with a ridge over England and Wales.
Southerlies and SSW'lies cover Northern Ireland and Scotland with SE'lies
and easterlies elsewhere. SE'lies and ESE'lies cover the UK at T+144 as the
high builds and extends eastwards.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
A mixture southerlies and SE'lies covers the UK, which lies between a low to
the west and a high over the North Sea. The high builds over southern
Scandinavia at T+144, resulting in SSE'lies and SE'lies. A shallow trough
moves northwards over England and Wales at T+168 and with pressure remaining
high to the NE winds are still southerlies and SE'lies for most.

GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif
GEM southerlies and SE'lies, again due to a high to the NE.

GME/DWD:
http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...080000_120.gif
DWD shows the UK under a ridge from the east, leading to SW'lies for
Scotland, SSW'lies for Northern Ireland and southerlies or SE'lies
elsewhere. SE'lies and southerlies cover the UK at T+144 as a trough moves
slowly northwards towards the UK.

JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif
Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under strong southerlies from a low to the
west, whereas the rest of the UK is covered by a ridge and light winds. The
ridge moves NW'wards at T+144, bringing SSW'lies to Scotland and southerlies
or SE'lies elsewhere.

NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NOGAPS shows SW'lies across the UK due to a deep low to the NW.

KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif
The Korean model shows southerlies and SW'lies over the UK with a ridge over
England and Wales.
