uk.sci.weather (UK Weather) (uk.sci.weather) For the discussion of daily weather events, chiefly affecting the UK and adjacent parts of Europe, both past and predicted. The discussion is open to all, but contributions on a practical scientific level are encouraged. |

I'm looking for historical local weather data for Spain for January and
February of 2005. The national weather service (INM) seems pretty hopeless. Any ideas? |

Actually, if you are looking for "official" records, you will probably need to contact Spain's National Meteorological Service, since this is the ultimate source of observed Spanish meteorological observations from cities, airports, etc. However, some amateur websites may have archives of official and unofficial weather observations of recent times for specific locations in Spain. Finding them on the Web may take some effort though. A good place to start is he http://www.wunderground.com/weathers...dCountry=Spain You may also want to research synoptic (SYNOP) and climate (CLIMAT) reports from the period in question. If you just want to know how much precipitation occured and what the average temperature was (along with other basic climatic information) at key locations in Spain, go a few pages down in these documents (Monthly Clmatic Data For the World) : http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/mcdw/mcdw0501.pdf http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/mcdw/mcdw0502.pdf You may also access previous monthly summaries of decoded daily synoptic data, inc. precipitation, max/min temperature, sunshine for about 80 WMO stations in Espana from several sources, including: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Europe.htm (choose country/city) http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/...ata.html#daily Keith at http://www.southendweather.net/ Keep in mind that there may be errors and missing data in these unofficial summaries. |

Thanks dpatri and Southend Keith for responding, and apologies my the
delay in replying. I'm looking for as detailed reports as I can reasonably expect of conditions between Barcelona (am 22/1/2005) and Cádiz (pm 5/2/2005), with night stops in Tarragona (22/1), Vinaròs (23/1), Valencia (24 & 25/1), Font de la Figuera (26/1), Albacete (27-29/1), Yeste (30/1), Hornos (31/1), Jódar (1/2), Baena (2/2), Marchena (3 & 4/2), Cádiz (5/2), backtrack to Sevilla (6/2). I say "reasonably expect" because I realise getting anywhere near that would be quite unreasonable. (I was on a pushbike and made some notes, but principal memory are stuff like being bloody freezing most of the time and getting chased down a frozen hill by starving dogs) Cheers Trevor http://oreneta.com/baldie/ |
