Interesting to see if this persists into the winter. I remember reading some while ago that the Severe cold spells of Dec 1981 and early Jan 1982,were especially cold because of unusally cold waters in the Artic off the coast of Norway |

Or is it just a case of the Arctic ice melt cooling those waters? Either way, I wonder what effect it will have on us. I see there's still the cold pool to the south of the grand banks, hang on there baby g -- Keith (Southend) 'Weather Home & Abroad' http://www.southendweather.net |

Well Rupert there are subtle changes not least the "tongue" of warmer water now appearing along the coats of Norway. Also the cold intensity previously to the east, on 27/9, has now edged a little to the west and become somewhat less intense. http://www.osdpd.noaa.gov/PSB/EPS/SST/climo&hot.html Early days yet.... I noticed that there is already sea ice along the east Greenland coast south
of Scoresby Sound. It can be seen in this afternoon's noaa12 pass. Rather noisy signal I am afraid, but the ice is still clearly visible. www.btinternet.com/~wokingham.weather/wwp.html Page 2, 12 October, HRPT, last image -- Bernard Burton Wokingham, Berkshire, UK.
