Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Friday. Issued 0540z,
17/10/05. The models show an unsettled end to the working week, followed by a chance of northerlies by Sunday as low pressure/a trough moves away to the east. Not all models agree though and the MetO brings easterlies across the UK instead. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif Lows are located to the NW and WSW, with westerlies across the UK as a result. The latter low moves over England at T+144, leading to SW'lies for SE England and northerlies for Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The winds become NW'lies for most at T+168 as a weak ridge crosses Ireland. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif As with the ECM, two lows surround the UK - this time to the ENE and to the WSW. England and Wales lie under a col, while Scotland and Northern Ireland are affected by easterlies. Easterlies cover much of the UK at T+144 as the low to the WSW moves over the Celtic Sea. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif The UK lies a large trough from the NE, with a deep low over Scandinavia and a secondary low to the south of Ireland. Winds are northerlies for Scotland and westerlies elsewhere. The trough moves eastwards at T+144, bringing further northerlies to Scotland and NE'lies elsewhere. Day 7 sees a high build over the UK, with light winds for all. GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif The Canadian run shows NE'lies and northerlies for the UK due to a ridge over Scotland and a trough over the Low Countries. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...170000_120.gif A trough covers England and Wales. To the north winds are northerlies, with westerlies for most of England and Wales. The trough moves southwards at T+144, allowing northerlies to affect all areas. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows NW'lies for Scotland, with a low to the ENE. Elsewhere winds are westerlies due to a weak ridge over Ireland. A col covers much of the UK at T+144, with light winds for all. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS brings northerlies across the UK in association with a trough over England. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif The Korean model shows a col over much of the UK. Northern Ireland lies under southerlies from a trough to the west, with SE England is affected by northerlies from a trough to the east. |
