Dave, the news 24 weather is recorded. It's not live or updated. So your point, I don't agree entirely. But I'm probably misunderstanding. Anyway, the way I see it is readers should read the news and weather forecasters should read the weather. In my opinion, we don't need newsreaders expressing their emotions... I agree - and that's my point - too much fake bright and cheeryness or sombreness. It just happened to be Helen today but it could have been anyone who came unstuck, if someone forgot to flick off their "happy" switch. It was the contrast that made it look awkward but I have to admit, she's handled it better since the 3pm broadcast. On a day like today both newsreaders and weather presenters should have played it absolutely neutrally (neither happy nor miserable), just like the old days. What made it worse was that, if it was prerecorded, an attempt was made to make it look "live" by Helen answering back by name to the two newsreaders (no doubt following a script). Well that came unstuck, too. Hopefully, it was an isolated mistake (for a mistake it surely was). -- Dave |
