Default GFS keen on a persistent easterly flow after Nov 5th

See:

And beyond to the 12th - I wonder if this the GFS out to lunch or a real
prospect?

Cheers,
James

Something's afoot! Various output suggests a small, innocuous ridge will
balloon into a whacking great high to the east or NE in a week's time.

For what it's worth, 3 of the 12 0z GFS ensemble members bring an
increasingly cool easterly drift over the UK and another one (the
operational) brings a northerly blast. If they're to be trusted, judging by
the lack of rain on the ensembles things will look quite different
synoptically in 10 to 14 days!

Echoes of November 1993, perhaps, when there was a week of cold weather
in the South East toward the end of the month. Think we had about 5
inches of snow in the Basildon area one Sunday morning.
The following months however failed to produce a memorable winter from
such a great start....
