Dear Weather Chums,
October 2005. Mild, wet, and cloudy, with a notable warm spell near the end. Unusually there were two very wet days (defined as 25 mm of rain 9-9: the 11th, with 35.0 mm, and the 24th, with 33.4 mm) - the only time this has happened in the past ten years apart from the weird month of August 2004. The month was not as mild as 2001 nor as wet as 2002, 1998, or 2004 (which had 152.2 mm of rain). October is by far the wettest month of the year here. Av. max = 12.7 Av. min = 7.4 Av. = 10.1C Highest max = 17.9 (27th) Lowest min = +1.6 (14th) 11 October. 35.0 mm rain in a day - the fourth heaviest fall on record. Then, curiously, less than a fortnight later ... 24 October. Another 35.0 mm of rain. 27 October. 17.9C - the new record highest temperature so late in the year, easily beating the previous record of 9 October 2003, which saw 18.1C. Overall subjective interestingness of the month: 8/10. Readings from a Davis Weather Monitor II.
