Mean +10.9บC
anomally + 2.1บC
Hi max. +19.1บC (27th)

Sunshine
Total 52.5 hours
sunless days 16 days

Air frosts 0
Ground frosts 1
Snowfall 0
Thunder 1
Prev wind SSW

Comments:
A very cloudy month included sixteen days without any sunshine recorded.
Perhaps the least sunny October locally of the last 50 years.
Also notably warmer than average (+10.9), although the Octobers of 1995
(+11.3บC) and 2001 (+11.6บC) were warmer still.
Quite a wet month too compared to the eLTA of 100mm, but seven of the last
ten Octobers seen higher rainfall totals than that recorded in 2005.
Alike last year, there's been no air frosts up to this point in the season,
last years being latest of all (12th November).
Exceptionally mild day on the 27th with a maximum of +19.1บC, the site
record for the second half of October had been +17.4บC (23.10.96).
Alex.

Since I've been recording in Carluke, (1993) this year's mean Jan-Oct is the
warmest so far.

Not quite the warmest here. By a fraction 1995, 1997 and 2000 were slightly
warmer at this stage.
Here's the numbers for comparison (1993 was before my time, so not included
;P)
Jan-Oct mean in Wishaw:
1994 8.6
1995 10.1
1996 9.0
1997 10.0
1998 9.6
1999 10.0
2000 10.2
2001 8.9
2002 9.6
2003 9.7
2004 9.8
2005 10.0

Both 1995 (December) and 2000 (November) had a cold month at the end of the
year of course, hence 1997 was the warmest year here (9.43บC), with 2000
taking second place - but I wouldn't be surprised if it was eclipsed this
year!
An interesting local variation Stuart. I wonder how much it is due to my
meteorological day being midnight to midnight?
Alex.

Alex,
1994 8.2
1995 9.4
1996 8.7
1997 9.5
1998 9.2
1999 9.5
2000 9.3
2001 8.8
2002 9.5
2003 9.60
2004 9.5
2005 9.63

My met day is 09-21 max 21-09 min (09-09 min is so critically dependent on
being available at that time and I don't have electronic weather station -
but my barograph helps with the standard thermometers if I'm away)

the rolling 12 month period is higher than any calendar year so far

Fascinating to compare, many thanks for posting your data Stuart.
Very similar results as should be expected, yours being a notch cooler due
to your additional height of course (roughly 0.3บC).
I note that in 2000 we significantly differ (by almost 1บC), notably the
year I switched to AWS - and took some time (3 or 4 months) to accurately
calibrate and properly site the temp sensor.
Cheers
Alex.

Missed this point in my last reply, sorry.
The rolling 12 month mean here is 9.2บC, fractionally lower than the mean
for 1997 (9.43บC) at this site.
However, a quick glance at the rolling mean from Nov94-Oct95 shows it was
higher still @ 9.6บC.
Might have a look into all rolling 12 month values to see which comes out
the highest, not being a wizard with spreadsheets it might take some time
though.
I'll try and get back to this thread in a few days time.
Alex.
