Default October 2005 at Hazlehead, Aberdeen

Here is my summary of a very boring October in the suburbs of Aberdeen.

TEMPERATURE (°C)

Mean Max: 12.5
Mean Min: 8.4
Overall Mean: 10.5

Highest Max: 16.3 (3)
Lowest Max: 8.5 (23)
Highest Min: 12.7 (28)
Lowest Min: 2.0 (14)

Number of air frosts: 0

RAINFALL (mm)

Total: 119.2
Highest Day Total: 52.2(11)

Days with rain (=0.2): 15
Days with rain (=1) : 15

Total Rainfall Duration : 73.7 hrs
Highest Daily Duration: 20.1 hrs (11)
Average Rainfall Rate: 1.62mm/hr
Peak Rainfall Rate: 18.6mm/hr (22)

BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (mb)

Mean (at 9am): 1011.1
Highest: 1030.3 (14)
Lowest: 983.3 (25)

Overall: A very dull and wet month with equable temperatures. In other
words an almost identical October to 2004. The absolute maximum would
have been the lowest since 1993 had last years not been even worse.
Mean daily range was probably the lowest in October since 1960. The
absolute minimum was higher than in June and there was only one day
more with a min below 7°C than in June.

Heavy rainfall of the 10th to 12th was the only interesting weather
event of the month. 76mm fell in less than 48 hours with 59mm falling
in 24 hours (probably highest fall since Sept 1995). It was the fifth
October in six years to have rainfall at least 30% above average in
Aberdeen. [October 2002 had an astonishing 230mm at Dyce and nearly
400mm (6 months worth) fell in 6 weeks during that horrendous autumn.]
