Default October 2005: Synoptic Overview

Last month was one of the warmest Octobers on record thanks to
remarkably persistent winds from a southerly quarter delivering air
from unusually low latitudes of the Atlantic Ocean. It was also a
wet and very cloudy month over much of the UK.

in Shetland to -5mbar at Valentia. The anomalous flow over
the UK was SSE-ly.

(26th wettest in last 100 years, but five of the last
seven Octobers have been wetter)
E&W Sunshine: 89.1 hr ( 79% of 1971-2000 mean)
(13th dullest in last 100 years, and dullest since 1982)

CScotT: 11.3°C (+1.7 degC)

to 49mm at Coningsby (Lincs). Percentages ranged from

Noticed that Jan-Oct mean temp was higher at my station than any in the last
12 years.
