Default Today's model interpretation (5/11/05)

Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Wednesday. Issued
0553z, 5/11/05.

The models continue to show a zonal setup for the latter half of next week
with wind and rain for all.

ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif
ECM shows a weak ridge over the UK with westerlies for most. By T+144 the
winds become SW'lies and WSW'lies as the UK becomes sandwiched between a low
to the north and a high to the south. A secondary low deepens to the north
of Scotland at T+168 and a trough crosses Ireland. This leads to strong or
gale force WSW'lies and SW'lies over the UK.

MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif
MetO shows strong to gale force SW'lies, much as with the ECM at T+144. A
large high lies to the SW and by T+144 it moves ENE'wards over France,
leaving the UK under SW'lies.

GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
England and Wales lie under a ridge, with SW'lies elsewhere. The ridge moves
eastwards at T+144, leaving the whole of the UK under SW'lies. The winds
become SSW'lies and southerlies at T+168 as a trough approaches Ireland.

GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif
Unavailable today.

GME/DWD:
http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...050000_120.gif
A trough covers the UK with WSW'lies for most. The trough moves away to the
east at T+144, with a weak ridge over the UK instead. Winds are westerlies
for all.

JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows a weak ridge and westerlies for all. Strong SW'lies
cover the UK at T+144 and T+168 as a high moves ENE'wards over France and
Switzerland.

NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NOGAPS WSW'lies associated with a weak trough over the UK. By T+144 the
winds become SW'lies as pressure builds to the south.

KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif
The Korean model shows strong WSW'lies due to a low to the north and a high
to the south.

MM5 snow forecast:
http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...snoc.hr120.gif
No snow is forecast to lie over the UK at T+120.
