Can confirm, loads of fireworks went off as planned here in North Devon, despite dire warnings of 'wash-outs' Some drizzly rain, but nothing heavy as yet Now i flick across to the BBC News site, and they have an article there about warnings of flooding http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4410650.stm Well we have 10.2 mm in the last 4 hours or so and it is still raining steadily. OK that's diddly-squat for up here, but the moor can take no more, it's saturated, so if we do get any heavy stuff (50mm falls) then there are going to be big problems. We have also had 10mm over the last 4 hours and 26mm in the last 12. It is currently falling at 3mm per hour and does not look like easing yet. Our land is also saturated but I am quite happy with the run-off routes and the flood plain in the Towey valley. However, there are a lot of places not so fortunate and I am sure there are a lot of worried people in Wales and the West Country. -- Howard Neil |

Gwynedd plus Llanrwst/Conwy and upper&lower Dee are all on Floodwatch; I drove to Cwm y Glo and Waunfawr on Weds, Thurs, and Friday dodging water all the way and am surprised the rivers aren't over. Snowdonia is certainly saturated and the water table here is high, ox-bows and low points in the fields are full. It's drizzled in varying degrees all afternoon and evening here but I haven't checked any of the local weather stations as we're intending to go to a ploughing match in Elmet tomorrow. -- ..ElaineJ. We've had none and there are clear skies and it is a mild 12.7C. Luckily it wasn't forecast as a dry warm evening and it ended up a washout1! It really would have hit the fan then. Perhaps it's a reverse psychology forecast - predict what most people least want then they are p;easantly surprised. ;-) I was very grateful it was dry, keeping two sides from killing each other up at Aldershot. I prepared for the worst based upon the weather late last night, but apart from a few drops at the start of the match nothing happened all afternoon- and it was a good match. Then in the evening huge fireworks from everywhere in Aldershot. Driving back down the A303 there was some light drizzle and a good breeze especially on Salisbury Plain. At 2300 a very slightly embarrassed chap from the Met Office agreed (with no explanation) that the forecast had gone astray ( Radio Solent) but added that the next batch was 'not far off Lyme Bay'. When I got to Yeovil there was proper rain, then it stopped over the hills. But my caving chap reckons tomorrow might be different and vast volumns of water going into Swildons at Priddy might make for considerable entertainment. Anyway, that is twice this week that Weather Warnings have been put out for my patch, and this is somewhat irritating!! Robin |
