Just looking at the charts of my data for the last two days and noticed
that at almost the same time on both days there's a noticeable (around 1C) increase of temperature just as the temperature peaks at 1:45pm. You can see the charts he http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/d...h=11&year=2005 http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/d...h=11&year=2005 Any explanation as to what this might be? Is it just coincidence or is it something to do with my equipment setup or exposure? It might be nothing, but it caught my attention! Jonathan Canterbury, Kent |

I don't think so - the sun's been out all day with not a cloud in the sky, so the screen should have been in sunshine from shortly after the sun rose. I will have to pay attention to the exposure to the sun next time I'm at home at 1:45pm! Jonathan Canterbury, Kent |

Perhaps, at that time, the sun is just in the right position so that the sun reflects off a window or shiny surface directly on your sensor? |

How about a reflection catching the screen at that time. The shape of the hump looks very similar to ones that the internal plot here gets when the unit catches the sun. -- Cheers Dave. pam is missing e-mail |

I was puzzled by the sudden appearance of a brown line in my lawn this summer (dead straight, very thin and about 1m long). It was only when I happened to look out of the window late one afternoon that I noticed the sun was being reflected and focused by a stainless steel garden fountain I'd put in a couple of months earlier. It burnt quite a line in the lawn, some distance from the fountain itself, stopped doing it for a few weeks in late August and then burnt another one in a different place over a few more weeks in September. The lawn soon recovers, so I'll live with it but, not having gone through a whole year yet, I'm a little worried that come the spring it might start to sear a groove in something just that bit more flammable. :-) Regards, - Tom. |

My temperatures had a 'hump' today too! The temperature was rising steadily
by about 1.0C an hour until 14:00 when the temperature jumped from 7.5C to 9.7C in 30 minutes, over double the previous warming rate. I can discount the effects of the sun shining on the screen as it remains in shadow all day at this time of year. ________________ Nick G Exe Valley, Devon 50 m amsl "Jonathan Stott" wrote in message ... That's interesting. I recorded a max of just 5.0C here in Exwick, a few
miles south of you, with a full day's sun. Hoar frost persisted all day in the shade on the grass after a min of -3.1C. I am on an east-facing hill, losing the sun pretty early this time of year - and with flat calm conditions, it could well have been a couple of degrees warmer on the other side of the Exe Valley. Dropped quickly to -0.1C by 17Z last night, but then rose and oscillated between zero and PS02 overnight beneath a moth-eaten SC layer. Already 5.7C now, and with a few knots of wind to mix things up, I expect a max of around 8C assuming it remains sunny.. Cheers, Paul "Nick G" wrote in message ... Jonathan Canterbury, Kent I know that on windless nights opening the front door of my house for a few seconds can raise my thermometer by 2C (It's about 6ft from the front door). And even setting off the halogen security light can raise it by 0.5C. -- Brian Wakem Email: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/b.wakem/myemail.png |
