Default What one would expect

With only a day to go now I currently stand at 98.5% of the 1970 -
2000 rainfall average.

Temperatures are a mean of +0.7ฐc of the 1970 - 2000 average. Greatest
increase is with minimum values (+0.9ฐc)

Are we all coming up with similar anomalies?

I picked out the following article today from one of Ireland's national
newspapers, The Irish Independent, titled "Temperatures up for eleventh year
in a row". One extract reads "Every month of the year experienced above
normal temperatures, apart from July and October, which were average." If
you want to read more then here you go.

(My grammer is no great shakes(! ;-p) but I would have expected better from
the following...)

J.

"IRELAND is heating up with weather records showing temperatures were up for
the eleventh successive year. And the sunniest day since records began was
recorded in Cork on June 15 during the hazy days of that month.

According to Met Eireann's initial reports on the year's weather,
temperatures were above the normal rate. Every month of the year experienced
above normal temperatures, apart from July and October, which were average.
April through to June and August through to September were particularly warm
periods, according to the Climate Department of Met Eireann.

The highest temperatures were recorded on the August Bank Holiday weekend
with temperatures of over 25C enjoyed across most of the country. A high of
27C was recorded in Galway.

The sunniest day of the year - since records began 42 years ago - was at
Cork Airport on June 15 when an amazing 16 hours of sunshine was recorded.

Rainfall for 2004 was close to normal with May and November the driest
months but March and October the wettest.

The southern part of the country got the heaviest rain especially in the
second week of October when the south and south-east was the worst hit. Over
a 48-hour period on October 27 and 28, 150mm of rain was recorded in the
area.

This resulted in three days of bad flooding which led to insurance payouts
of over ?38m and Cork, Wexford and Clonmel were among the areas worst
affected by the flooding.

Up to 40 Clonmel families had to be housed in temporary accommodation as the
clean-up operation swung into action.

At the same time, there were gales caused by a depression off the coast of
Ireland which was also the reason for the flooding.

It was not a particularly bad year for winds with generally the strongest
winds measured on March 20 in most places.

But the strongest gust of the year was 73 knots recorded at Belmullet, Co
Mayo. "
