The BBC seem to be getting excited about it but hey....was there any
point
in me telling you that!

This will be interesting, my view is that ukmo will *always* over do the
risk factor. I trust them to be correct over such a short period of time
but I don't trust the over hyped potential, that's being painted.
I don't believe the south will see any settled snow -perhaps maybe and a
big maybe for hilly areas.

Up here in Haytor I'm expecting the first lying snow of the winter on Friday.
Hope to go sledging on Saturday and a challenging snowy walk on Sunday on the
high featureless moor above 500m asl around Cranmere pool, if the roads are
clear enough to get to the starting point. 850 hPa temperature of -5 deg C with
a sea level pressure below 1000 mb would give me a temperature (outside
precipitation) of around 2 deg C, the effect of melting snowflakes would quickly
lower that to around 0 to -1 deg C and then the snow will settle quickly on our
cold ground. A gradient wind slightly west of north or even north will ensure a
continued feed of showers onto Dartmoor and Exmoor notwithstanding any fronts or
troughs.

Will.
