Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Sunday. Issued 0600,
23/11/05. The models continue to show a cool if not cold outlook for the UK for Sunday and into the new week with low pressure close to eastern areas. Rain is more likely than snow at low levels, although the GFS in particular continues to show conditions will be borderline and some upland areas will doubtless see a fair bit of snow. Longer term the upper ridge to the west looks like collapsing SE'wards but the models differ greatly with the way they handle it. In the meantime the extended GFS (which showed much milder weather for the start of December) was a marked outlier. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif A northerly flow covers the UK with low pressure over the southern North Sea. The low fills and drifts westwards at T+144, bringing light winds across England and Wales. Elsewhere winds are northerlies, with light winds (due to a col) for all at T+168. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif MetO shows a trough over the North Sea with the UK under light northerlies and NW'lies. Northerlies persist on day 6 as a ridge moves SE'wards to the west of Ireland. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif The UK lies under a trough from a low to the SW of Norway. Westerlies and NW'lies cover England, Scotland and Wales, with NNW'lies for Northern Ireland. The low drifts NW'wards at T+144 with NNW'lies across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Much of England lies under westerlies. The low fills to the ENE of Scotland at T+168 and a trough moves SE'wards over England. Winds are a mixture of northerlies and westerlies for Scotland and northern England, with NW'lies for Northern Ireland, Wales and SW England - elsewhere winds are westerlies or SW'lies. GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif Low pressure is centred over the North Sea with a trough across the UK. Winds are northerlies over Scotland and Northern Ireland with westerlies elsewhere. The low deepens and moves southwards at T+144, introducing easterlies and NE'lies across the UK. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...230000_120.gif Unavailable today. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif The Japanese run shows a northerly flow across the UK with a low to the east. Northerlies continue for most at T+144 but a secondary low over Biscay means winds are easterlies across much of southern and central England, as well as Wales. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif NOGAPS also shows northerlies with low pressure over Belgium. The low moves away to the NE at T+144, leaving northerlies for the UK. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A deep low lies to the east with northerlies for all as a result. MM5 snow forecast: http://rain.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/plots/n...snoc.hr120.gif No snow is forecast to lie over the UK at T+120. |
