Hi, All,
Could be among the highest UK max and lowest UK max today within 400 metres of our small village. What a contrast! Copley Met O site Max 12.6C Min -6.6C, range 19.2C Copley Lead Mill Max -0.1C Min -6.7C, range 6.6C Sunshine 7.6hr today, monthly total now 108.3hr, normal for the whole month is 63 hours. I suspect the cold pool stagnating in the valley will be stirred very soon! Best wishes, Ken Cook, Copley 253m asl, Copley Lead Mill 218m asl, nr Barnard Castle, County Durham http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/copley |

Just 2c most of the day here in the fog all day, winds have picked up now,
fog is thinning and temps slowly climbing up to 3.5c, up 1c in the last hour. Some contrast you have - I take it you have your supplies ready for the next few days ! Paul _______________________________ Paul Crabtree Brampton, Cumbria 117m A.S.L www.bramptonweather.co.uk |

Paul Hi, Paul, I think it will be a tad too warm for much snow especially by the time the wind swings around to NE'ly later in the weekend. The expected NW'ly for Friday usually brings us cloudless skies. Above 2000ft should see a sprinkling. It's been over-hyped imho, any that falls below 2000ft will be yukky, mucky wet stuff. We seem to get get very little radiation fog here which I'm pleased about. Best wishes, Ken |

Hi, Will, Thanks for the interest and the offer, I'm hoping to get a year's obs. in and then start on something. The locals have been wanting this hollow studying for some time, they call the screen the "frost box" btw! No sun shines there from mid November to February, but that alone would not explain so large a difference. The night temperatures are nothing spectacular, it just does not seem to recover after a cold night in calm air during the winter. When the wind mixes things up again everything returns to normal. I really need automated equipment, earth thermometers etc but there is the vandalism element. I have had damage already but that was unintentionally done by youngsters playing football. There is also the time element as Lord Barnard, who owns the land, could call things off at any time. I also think I need a visit from someone with more expertise than I have. I'll start the ball rolling at the next R Met Soc meeting, but I'm always open to suggestions and help from uksw. It's looking better for your sledge than mine atm, Will! Best wishes, Ken |
