Default [WR] 7cm of snow and rising fast

Rather heavy persistent snowfall in the last hour here. I Wonder how much
longer it will continue?
Wonderful to see as it was largely unforecast for this area.
Pics and timelaspe footage available on website.
Local radio repoting trouble on the major roads (M8 & M74).
I'm supposed to be sleeping right now as I'm nightshift tonight - well - I
am if the snow stops!
Alex.

Closer to 3 inches now probably!

All change now, a quick rise in temperature and change of wind direction and
now it's raining.
Back to bed I suppose!
Still, we did make it to 8cm here and it wasn't a dream.
Alex.

Around 8cm with drifts here, still snowing but wetter now. Gritter stuck on
A721 on east side of town.

Tried to extend my javaloop length and frequency to emulate your timelapse,
but re method is not at all suitable for the current software; it is
constantly using up bandwidth renaming 100 files each time the loop is
updated.

Cheers Will, I'm pleased for you too.
Back to snow/sleet here, after a brief rain interuption.
The wind has risen very fast from dead calm half an hour ago, and gusting in
the high 30's mph. Good job there was a slight thaw of the surface snow
otherwise it would be a very different scenario here. Goodness knows what
it's like in higher parts of the county.
Blizzards I presume.
The snow is now littered with all the dead leaves that hadn't fell from
trees over the last few cold calm weeks.
Alex.

Nice one Stuart.
I imagine it's begining to drift pretty bad up there now if you didn't have
a slight thaw before the wind set in?
Must be some windchill out there!
Definetly back to snow here now, but snow depth probably down to around 5cm.
What a couple of hours it's been!
Alex.

Nice pictures, cheers Stuart.
Far more sleety here now, and very slushy on the ground.
Quite an evil afternoon with the strong wind.
All told, 13.0mm of precipitation through the gague since 9.30am until now -
and some of it still has to melt.

Tell me about it, M74 was 'orrible. Heavy snow, stop/start from
somewhere between Lockerbie and Moffat to where I left to join the A71
to Kilmanock. Must have taken me 2hrs to do that stretch. On the
slight grade before the roadworks between 11 & 10(?) the heavies were
starting to get into trouble with loss of traction on the compacted
snow.

I've revised my views about "poor driving" causing major roads to
become car parks in the light of what I saw yesterday morning.
Motorways don't exactly have steep hills and several trucks were
really struggling to keep moving on the 2" of slush/compacted snow. It
would only take one truck to lose traction completely and another to
fail to get past for the road to become blocked.

I did see a Sainsburys arctic with drive wheels slowly rotating and
gently steaming but the wagon totally stationary, mind you he was
trying to get up the 3" deep snow covered outside lane at the time. He
did manage to get back onto the slush tramlines just after I went past
on the inside but he then pulled out onto the snow again, obviously
not a very quick learner... Before that a rigid had had to reverse off
the snow back to slush lines.

I also wondered how a people carrier could loose it so badly on a
black (not slush or compacted snow) tramlined road at no more than
30mph such that it had done a complete 360 bouncing off the barrier
twice. A small twitch that is easy to correct maybe but a 360 and
hitting the barrier?
