I purchased the WMO 'Standard' Duck six years ago in order to carry out
an assessment of its value. ' If the ice in November is thick enough to hold a duck - the rest of the winter will be slush and muck' The ducks are beautiful replicas of a Mallard and well worth the price of 10M euroes. (Payable to WMO Geneva.) I suggest a slight modification to the duck and tie strong thread round its neck lest the ice should break, and you have to retrieve it from deep water. Anyway today this valuable instrument stayed upon the ice for much longer than the specified 10 minutes. Well I mean who cares about the NAO anyway! The duck also makes an attractive garden feature in the summer; however do not leave it out in March as female ducks may...... This is a scientific news group after all. Its a classic that saying. But how much does it bear up.
November 1962. I don't think we need to say much there. November 1973 or was it 72. Anyway that winter was mild. November 1980. that winter mild. November 1985. Ahem, February 1986. :-) hardly mild. November 1993. Well that was a mild one. November 2005. Well lets wait and see. "Paul Bartlett" wrote in message ... It is one weather lore I wouldn't agree with in our *modern climate*.
Any cooling is welcome \can only help these days. In my humble opinion. -------------------------------------------------------------- "Paul Bartlett" wrote in message ... ![]() Paul Bartlett wrote: I purchased the WMO 'Standard' Duck six years ago in order to carry out an assessment of its value. Surely the six year old WMO standard duck will not meet current WMO standard duck specifications as regards size and shape (and immunity to bird flu)?? Best to be replaced with a current WMO standard duck for accurate forecasts. Cheers Paul -- That sort of smut could get you arrested Paul. I can see you now up before the beak/bill Judge: "Tell me Mr Bartlett do you recognise this court?" Paul: "No mallard have you had it decorated recently?" |
