Default Exceptionally wet start to December

A very wet and miserable start to December here. Already 40.4mm has
fallen which is over half the monthly average. Daily totals have been
as follows:

1st: 3.6mm
2nd: 18.2mm
3rd: 6.8mm
4th: 5.0mm
5th:6.8mm (so far)

Only one day out of the last 12 (29th Nov) has failed to record
measurable precipitation with every other day apart from the 30th
having at least 1mm.

The rain has been heavy at times as well with 25mm/hr recorded today
and 22mm/hr on the 2nd.

As well as being wet it has also been dull with only around 2 hours of
sun for the last 6 days.

Fortunately the BBC are forecasting the winds to change to W./S.W. soon
so the weather should turn a lot drier and brighter.

Also of note today was the 21st consecutive day I have recorded with a
max below 10C. Probably the longest such sequence this early in the
winter since 1977.

Aberdeen.

I hope their forecast is wrong then as the winds have been from that
general direction all month so far, and are the cause of all my rain.

Please can I have some decent northerlies / easterlies ?

well according to one of the models - FNMOC - a large High 1040 is
sitting over us after a brief caress by a depression or two up north.
I tend to associate this time of year with a dry spell. After a bit of
that, back to something wet and windy from the SW. The alternating
pattern is what I quite like living on the edge of a very large
pond.Nothing gets too boring for too long ( though we had a very
tedious blocking high off Ireland for weeks last autumn/winter: cannot
remember now) The only other place I have lived in for any reasonable
length of time was Belgium ( grey, grey and very grey Brussels) and
Adelaide.
So you will get a cold regime now and then. And,indeed, just about
everyone is waiting for the much heralded very cold snap.
Sadly I did not get any comment back from a MOD source who asked me to
take special precautions two weeks ago. That source quoted this winter
as being like 1963 so I merely asked the source whether the
information was really worth the expense,as it were, of mailing
everyone.
Seasons greetings..Robin

Wind direction here has been mostly from the E./S.E. this month which
is why it has been so wet. The last couple of days have had N.W. winds
which has meant brighter more showery conditions. I don't usually
record much rain when the wind is from the W. or S.W.

Rain total for the month is up to 42.8mm. The forecast for tomorrow is
excellent with lots of sunshine so hopefully the total will not be
added to.
