Video presentations could be broadcast via the net (not sure about that virtual weather broadcaster software though, unless it could be programmed to push wrong buttons sometimes, and have the screen collapse behind him) I would offer to broadcast the audio forecasts on my net radio station We'd interview each other using Skype (skype.com) allows voice conversations via Pc Not necessary to hire expensive studio's / use powerful transmittors these days The Shipping Forecast could be spiced up a bit. Get someone to read it out using their ah-hem 'bedroom' voice Well Will, you suggested it, lets go for it!! Well what a job Alan www.wincantonweather.co.uk I can allow input to my webserver through the weblog or via other php scripts - and can moderate here most of the time as I work from home a lot. I've got 160Gb of RAID-5 available for hosting using Apache, MySQL and php. It's not high traffic and voluntary so I'm not breaking Telewest's acceptable use policy. Setting up another dedicated page or website isn't a problem. I'm less fond of live streaming but occasional video's fine. I'd have to look into Skype. Somebody would have to look into using internet product as it wouldn't be for personal use... We could give Metcheque a run for their money, we'd blow the BBC off the planet and give live as-is weather reports. Lightning help in this direction along with a few others Needs someone to collate the whole job, poor soul Daily input from all. Well what a job Alan www.wincantonweather.co.uk Wow what a response! It's certainly feasible but it does need organizing. Many many years ago I and a few others had this idea of setting up our own weather service based on interpretation of satellite images, observations and experience, it never got off the ground because we recognised that we needed access to NWP data too. Things have changed vastly since then and it is certainly feasible now as shown by companies like Metcheck. But what Metcheck lack is width of experience and that is precisely what we have in usw. But what could we offer in the way of a service?, how ambitious should we be?, I think we need a pilot. Les has offered web space and we could use that. Jack provides gliding forecasts, we have a fantastic meteorological resource in the FAQ, I provide a weekly outlook, Darren gives daily summaries, a lot of us provide observational data, if all that could be hosted *easily* on one site somehow (even if only by links in some cases) then it would be a fantastic start and certainly something to build upon. Is there any way that posts could be captured automatically and put onto a web page? Like Colin Young's summaries for example.
