Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Friday. Issued 0553,
12/12/05. The models generally show NW'lies for the UK for the weekend with cold air not far from Scotland. The GFS shows a more potent northerly interlude, as did yesterday's 12z ECM. However, none of the other models are as keen, instead keeping the jet roaring away to the north of the Azores High and thus preventing anything really cold affecting the UK. To add further spice, the GFS ensembles show good agreement of (at least) a short-lived cold blast on the 16th for Scotland and the 17th for England, despite the other models not backing it up. As ever, more runs are needed. ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif Strong NNW'lies cover the UK with a large high to the WSW. The NNW'lies persist at T+144 as the Azore high declines, however high pressure builds over Iceland from the north. The Icelandic high sinks southwards at T+168, bringing cold northerlies for the UK. MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif The UK lies under NW'lies with a low to the NW and a high to the WSW. NW'lies persist at T+144 as the low to the NW fills to become a trough west of Scotland. GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png The GFS shows moderate northerlies over the UK, due to a weak ridge over Iceland and a marked upper trough to the east. The ridge topples over the UK at T+144 to bring westerlies for all, followed by further westerlies at T+168 from a low east of Scotland. GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html The Canadian run shows low pressure over Scandinavia and NW'lies for the UK. There's little change at T+144. GME/DWD: http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/g...120000_120.gif NW'lies cover the UK with the Azores High to the SW. The winds become WNW'lies at T+144 as the high moves towards Biscay, followed by westerlies and WSW'lies at T+168 from a trough over Ireland. JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif As with the other runs, high pressure lies to the SW and this time it brings NW'lies for the UK. The winds become NNW'lies at T+144 as a ridge builds southwards from Iceland. NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/ngp10.prp.120.europeg.gif Strong northerlies and NW'lies cover the UK, again due to a high to the WSW. There's little change at T+144. KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif A ridge from the west covers the UK, bringing NNW'lies and NW'lies. |
