Bright and sunny morning. Heavy hoar frost deposit last night, still
persisting in the shade. Thought at first we had had some slight SN overnight. Frost thickest on roads and pavements..less on roofs. Something rather unusual about it. Tmin prob about PS 02C. John -- York, North Yorkshire. (c.20 metre AMSL) |

No frost at Knaresborough, but I noticed from York eastwards, as you say, a heavy hoar frost on hard surfaces, but fields & vegetation appeared clear. I think is was a case solid ground still being cold from over the weekend. Lethal when I got to work at Scarborough, frozen sheets of slush everywhere - smooth too as there was obviously no traffic until this morning in works car parks etc. Part of the factory yard was still like that when I left this evening. -- steve |

The grass temp hardly rose above freezing much at all yesterday and following the 0.3mm rain later yesterday, the skies instantly cleared with frost forming quickly on all ground surfaces. Min 0.6c overnight here. |
