Default What do you rate this cold spell so far?

I rate it 7/10 , decent snow amounts but couldve
done with a lower temp to aid precipitation
development in the north sea.

6-8cm in total from the start, 6cm on the ground
today.

Good point Neil. I'll give it a 5/10. I'll post my categories for cold
spells in another posting. Thats a good issue that one.

Gavin.

Well I give it 10/10 here in Haytor.
OK no snow but fantastic sunshine and air quality and very white in the
mornings.
Yesterday walking on the moor was brilliant, dry grass, frost in shady spots,
bit of a wind chill but the sun helped.
Had snow at end of November which hung around for 7 days but this spell has felt
more wintry somehow.

Neil there's a long winter ahead of us and the latest GFS is already hinting at
the next build of pressure from the east.

Glad you got a bit of snow!
It won't be the last. And that's a forecast!

Will.

Joe *******i's update is interesting...

http://ukie.accuweather.com/adcbin/u...ric=1&partner=

Although things arn't obvious he still hints that more cold weather for
western Europe is around the corner.

I like the way he portrays his thoughts, we all have our thoughts, it's
good that he shares them with us.

Of course you need a translater :-)

In terms of today you couldn't get a better winter day. Good covering of
snow, mainly blue skies and an occassional snow shower.
In terms of cold spell, fairly average, as it hasn't lasted too long yet and
won't do much after Friday, so it'll be less than a week in length.
However, I quite like that - the anticipation of the snow, the event itself,
then looking forward to the next one.
I'm looking forward to see what Friday will bring, though and would still
like to witness a "real" easterly here.

Like Will, I would give it 9/10 for giving us the type of winter weather I
love. I would have to say only 1 out of 10 for snow though = to the depth in
cm so far!

Dave
P.S - surely 3.5 by your criteria above , Gavin? ;-)

Having given it more thought, thats true. Anyway I have a max below 0C
today, so that moves it up the ratings. Anyway, its due to end on Friday.

As most point out, there are signs of another cold spell quite soon. There
is a huge high pressure over western Russia on the charts for 2nd January,
so I think we won't be disappointed.

Gavin.

Just the tiniest dusting of snow here this morning (mm not cm) but to
be fair it's stayed around and hardly melted. The ground is frozen more
than it ever was last winter, and at least this easterly is for once
cold. So a gold star for temperatures but "could do better" for snow.

....couldn't class it as a 'proper wintry event. 2cm here is East Yorkshire
and no drifting over the Wolds. 4/10
