Well a bit of a damp squib really. Temperature fell to just below freezing when main snow on first occlusion set in but never got past light snow. By 1515 it was very fine stuff. Still snowing finely now but it is really Dartmoor drizzle falling as snow, and it gets in your eyes! (I should have taken my goggles). 1cm full cover above 350m asl and moor does look completely white with every surface (rocks, gorse, paths, ponds) covered. Cloud base now down to 350m and around Hay Tor rock it felt very bleak with a cold wind and thick fog. Some people were trying to sledge but conditions weren't really up to it. However, the ground is rock hard under the snow. At home I have a full cover but 1cm although the lane is white and slippery.Temperature has now crept up to +0.1 deg C and the snow is starting to turn "soft". That may be it for me for a while unless there is any heavy precipitation on the next occlusion but radar picture doesn't show much over land. Precipitation seems to be dying further east too. More data on my web site http://www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Hayt...antage_Pro.htm Will (Haytor, Devon, 310m asl) -- |
