Default [WR] Dartington, South Hams - 16:45 - turning mild and damp

Current temperature +3.1 deg. C
Dew point +1.2 deg. C
RH 87%
Wind 060 01 KT
Pressure 1012 hPa

A light but steady -DZ now set in. All traces of frost now gone.

Just returned from a trip to Haytor - didn't bump in to Will. Even at 1200FT
the precip has now turned to -RADZ, though feels very raw. Snow
grains/pellets for ~1 hour before the milder air reached the moor. Surfaces
very hard and frozen and looking nice and white.

Richard.

Richard, I'm puzzled as all the time I was on the moor it was fine snow
pellets no liquid stuff at all and now at 1737 it is snowing steadily
outside (biggish flakes) with a temperature of +0.3 deg C.

Will, pleased to hear that snow has returned/resumed. When I was on the moor
I was wearing a dark blue Gore-Tex down jacket and for much of the time the
precip striking the jacket was bouncing straight off and distinctly frozen
(pellets). When returning to the car (~3.30PM) the precip at changed to
small liquid splashes on the jacket. Perhaps I was generating so much heat I
was instantly melting the incident precip!!

Now we have reached the dizzy height of +3.9 deg. C (DP +2.5 deg. C) in
Dartington.

Thoughts now turning to Austria which is just over a week away. It was -22
deg. C at the top of the mountain earlier today!

Richard.
