Day maximum for today (29th) -0.7°C.
Lowest day maximum for ANY month since January 7th 2003 (-1.0) and lowest DECEMBER day maximum since 29th December, 2000 (-0.9°C). The difference today from those previous two occasions is that today we have *no* snow cover, and we have not started from a particularly low base: the minimum read this morning was only -1.4°C. In the past hour, any remaining low/medium level cloud has dispersed, and we have near-overcast dense Cirrus, allowing the temperature to fall smartly: currently -1.5°C (air) and below -2 (grass). Rain (or snow) on this lot wouldn't be welcome! T'was an Ice day here in Newbury again after yesterday's max of -0.3c. As
for the SN. It's coming your way Martin, started here just about 20 minutes ago now and its settling readily. Not a great deal to it yet though but..... Cheers Tony Newbury, Berkshire -1.6c when I last looked, an hour or more ago now. "Martin Rowley" wrote in message ... Halfway between the two of you (Stratfield Mortimer). Just been
outside, no sign of any snow here although the cloud has thickened up in the last hour or so. Air temp -1.5°C, dew point -3.1°. Day max today just -0.6°C. Assuming it lasts to 2100 it'll be the first 09-21h ice day here since 20 Dec 1999 (also -0.6°C) and the coldest day since 8 Jan 1997 (-1.6°C). Max yesterday a balmy 1.8°C here. (Stevenson screen, open exposure.) Last night's min 21-09h was -1.6° at 0853, but interestingly the temp continued to fall for another 3 hours (-1.9°C at 1154). Stephen |

Light snow started here 1900z; thin dusting after an hour's fall. The
below-zero fall is betrayed by the ice crystals glinting like diamonds in my exterior lighting. Air temp now -1.2°C, dew point -2.7°C, wind light easterly, 2 kn or so. Stephen |

![]() 2000Z continuous light snow: OAT -0.8°C, dewpoint -3.0°C surfaces picking up a *very* thin 'dusting' of snow cover. 2100Z .... PPN ceased by 2025Z, with the suggestion (from the sound on the conservatory roof) of an ice pellet phase, which would tie in with the situation. OAT currently -0.5°C, with surfaces *very* lightly dusted but hardly worth the mention. There is a 'traceable' measure in the gauge.
